Chronic Closure-Compulsion as Incompleteness-Intolerance Wrong Attractor: The Open-Loop Anxiety Architecture, Closure-as-Control Basin, and the Return to Calibrated Incompleteness Tolerance

Rincón, D. · 2026 · Zenodo · incompleteness-intolerance wrong attractor

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

Chronic closure-compulsion is formalized as a wrong attractor W_CCO within the displacement framework: the inability to leave things unresolved — conversations must end cleanly, conflicts must be fully processed before sleep, emotions must be thoroughly worked through, ambiguous relationships must be clarified. The healthy ground state S0 is calibrated incompleteness tolerance: the capacity to hold open-ended situations without compulsive resolution; to allow organic closure at natural rhythms; to live with questions and ambiguous relational states.

Three mechanisms sustain the closure basin: open-loop anxiety (incompleteness generates sustained low-grade anxiety that cannot be discharged except through closure; the person is chronically scanning for open loops; ordinary life generates more open loops than can be closed); closure-as-control (achieving closure is experienced as restoring control over a situation that felt threatening in its openness; closure is pursued with urgency regardless of whether the other parties are ready or the situation is ripe for resolution); and incompletion-as-failure encoding (unresolved situations are experienced as personal failures of management; this adds a self-critical dimension that intensifies the anxiety and compulsion).

The Closure Paradox states: chronic closure-compulsion reliably prevents the genuine resolution it is organized to achieve; forced closure — conversations ended before they were ready, conflicts resolved on a timeline that satisfied one person's anxiety — produces pseudo-resolution that leaves the underlying issue intact and adds resentment about the forced closure. Nine formal propositions characterize the attractor, with developmental roots in environments where incompleteness was genuinely dangerous.

Return paths include incompleteness tolerance practice, open-loop sitting, and IFS work on the closure-manager and anxiety exile.
