Chronic Intellectualization as Cognitive-Defense Wrong Attractor: The Analysis-as-Avoidance Architecture, Emotional Bypass Basin, and the Return to Integrated Knowing

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

Chronic intellectualization — the systematic use of abstract analysis, conceptual framing, and cognitive processing as avoidance of direct emotional experience — is here formally reconceptualized as a wrong attractor W_IN in the landscape of integrated knowing. The healthy ground state S^0 is defined as integrated knowing: the capacity to engage both analytical and somatic-emotional modes of processing, deploying each appropriately.

W_IN is the pathological extreme of a defense mechanism that is genuinely useful in moderation; it arises when cognitive analysis becomes the exclusive mode of engaging difficult material, bypassing emotional processing and allowing accumulated displacement to compound. W_IN is particularly prevalent among highly educated individuals, academics, and those trained in analytical disciplines where cognitive mastery is rewarded and emotional expression is penalized.

Nine formal propositions characterize the Freudian intellectualization mechanism recast in displacement terms, the analysis trap whereby more analysis deepens W_IN rather than resolving it, somatic signatures of emotional bypass, the distinction from healthy reflection and appropriate emotional regulation, and return paths through somatic experiencing, emotion-focused therapy, and embodiment practices.
