Chronic over-sensitivity is widely treated as a personality trait, a failure of regulation, or a symptom of underlying pathology. We argue instead that it is best understood as a wrong attractor: a self-stabilizing dynamic state that the affective system is drawn toward and held within, distinct in kind from healthy sensitivity and from acute emotional reactivity. Drawing on attractor-state formalism and displacement theory, we introduce a ground-state baseline S^0 representing calibrated emotional resilience, a displacement function D() measuring deviation from that baseline along the reactivity dimension, and a cumulative displacement field = D()\,dt that tracks entrenchment over time.
Within this framework, chronic over-sensitivity instantiates as a wrong attractor W whose basin is maintained by a reactivity-override architecture: a threat-detection loop in which sensitization, misattribution, and somatic arousal reinforce one another, progressively foreclosing access to the calibrated-response basin. We enumerate nine formal propositions characterizing the geometry of this attractor, its stability conditions, and the dynamical requirements for exit.
We then connect the mechanistic account to the clinical literature on trauma, rejection-sensitive dysphoria, emotional dysregulation, and borderline personality organization.
