Chronic overexplaining — the compulsive elaboration of justifications for one's decisions, actions, and existence, driven by anticipated disapproval rather than communicative need — is here formally reconceptualized as a wrong attractor W_OE in the landscape of grounded presence. The healthy ground state S^0 is defined as grounded presence: the capacity to act, decide, and communicate without compulsive justification, offering explanation when genuinely useful without over-elaborating to manage anticipated disapproval.
Three structural variants are characterized: anticipatory overexplaining, in which justifications are elaborated before any objection is raised; reactive overexplaining, in which perceived criticism triggers excessive elaboration that escalates rather than resolves; and self-legitimation overexplaining, a form of internal rumination in which one's choices are compulsively justified to oneself.
W_OE is disproportionately socialized in those whose choices have historically been questioned or dismissed. Nine formal propositions characterize the communicative sufficiency baseline, anticipatory defense dynamics, reactive escalation, socialized basin entry through gender and marginalization, perfectionism and fawn response coupling, the internal basin depth, and return paths through explanation budget practice, pause-and-presence training, and assertiveness.
