Chronic Waiting-for-Permission as Authority-Dependence Wrong Attractor: The Approval-Seeking Architecture, Self-Authorization Foreclosure Basin, and the Return to Calibrated Autonomous Initiative

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

We formalize chronic waiting-for-permission (W_ CWP) as a wrong attractor within the displacement framework for psychological ground-state dynamics. In W_ CWP, external authorization has been reclassified from an occasionally useful social signal to a structural prerequisite for action: the person cannot act in domains where self-authorization is available and appropriate without first securing explicit sanction from some real or internalized authority figure.

We identify the Approval-Seeking Architecture (ASA) as the generative mechanism of this attractor—a neural and behavioral system that produces anticipatory deference by routing all action-initiation through an external-permission query before the person's own judgment is consulted or trusted. The Self-Authorization Foreclosure Basin (SAFB) describes the attractor's gravitational geometry: the person who has been in W_ CWP long enough finds self-authorization not merely difficult but phenomenologically unavailable, as though the capacity for autonomous initiative were simply absent from their repertoire.

We state and prove nine propositions (P_1–P_9) characterizing the architecture, costs, and return dynamics of W_ CWP. We show that punishment-anxiety is the primordial sustaining force; that the permission-seeking loop is self-reinforcing; that opportunity costs accumulate silently and compound; that authority-dependence consolidates as identity; that others' exasperation accelerates the social isolation of the person seeking permission; that the critical diagnostic distinction is between genuine contextual ambiguity and compulsive deference; and that return requires taking unauthorized action with tolerance of consequence, followed by graduated expansion of the self-authorization range, culminating in the stability of S^0—calibrated autonomous initiative—when self-trusting initiative becomes the baseline.
