Compulsive apologizing — the chronic pattern of apologizing for existence, presence, needs, and non-wrongs as a self-erasure and conflict-avoidance mechanism — is here formally reconceptualized as a wrong attractor W_CA in the landscape of accountable presence. The healthy ground state S^0 is defined as accountable presence: the capacity to acknowledge genuine wrongdoing proportionately and repair relationships without apologizing for one's existence, needs, or ordinary assertiveness.
Two structural variants are characterized: pre-emptive apologizing (apologizing before any harm has occurred, as anxiety management) and existence apologizing (apologizing for taking up space, having needs, or asserting one's presence). W_CA is disproportionately socialized in women and marginalized groups as a status management strategy. Nine formal propositions characterize the pre-emptive guilt architecture, the existence apology basin, basin deepening through gender socialization and fawn response substrate, the accountability evacuation mechanism whereby chronic apology makes genuine repair impossible, the distinction from genuine accountability and cultural politeness, and return paths through apology audit, assertiveness scaffolding, and self-compassion practices.
