Compulsive Confessing as Guilt-Discharge Wrong Attractor: The Revelation Architecture, Internal-Reckoning Foreclosure Basin, and the Return to Calibrated Selective Accountability

Rincón, D. · 2026 · Zenodo · guilt-discharge wrong attractor

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

Confession is a legitimate and sometimes necessary human act: the disclosure of wrongdoing to another person as part of genuine accountability, relationship repair, or moral reckoning. This paper does not concern that act. It concerns its compulsive variant—the driven, repetitive disclosure of wrongs, thoughts, fears, or transgressions not as a step toward genuine change but as a mechanism for discharging the affective weight of guilt without undertaking the internal reckoning that genuine change would require.

Within the Displacement Framework, compulsive confessing is reconceptualised as a wrong attractor W_CC organised around a guilt-relief cycle: guilt accumulates, confession discharges it into the relational field, temporary relief follows, guilt reaccumulates at baseline or above, and confession is required again. We term this architecture the revelation architecture and characterise its defining feature as the internal-reckoning foreclosure basin: the region of psychological state space from which genuine self-examination and behavioural change become systematically unavailable because confession has already served as their substitute.

Nine formal propositions develop the structure of W_CC, its basin geometry, and the mechanisms that maintain it. Return paths to the ground state S^0— calibrated selective accountability—are identified, with particular attention to the clinical presentations of OCD scrupulosity, religious confession loops, therapy oversharing, and accountability-without-behaviour-change. A central finding: the compulsive confessor relieves guilt without incurring the cost of change, and this relief is the mechanism by which change is forestalled.
