Wearable biometric devices and health-tracking applications have proliferated rapidly, promising to translate the body's processes into legible data streams. For a significant subset of users, however, the monitoring relationship inverts: rather than supporting autonomous somatic judgment, continuous self-quantification becomes a wrong attractor that forecloses the very embodied trust it ostensibly cultivates.
We introduce a formal framework in which ground state S^0 denotes calibrated somatic presence—the baseline condition of integrated, non-anxious body-awareness—and W denotes the compulsive health-tracking / biometric-obsession regime. The displacement cost function D() measures the energetic and epistemic cost of sustaining position in the state space of self-monitoring intensity, and = D()\,dt accumulates that cost across a monitoring episode.
We characterize the biometric-obsession architecture as a feedback loop with three reinforcing subsystems: data-hunger (the compulsion to generate new measurements), verdict-dependency (routing somatic self-trust through numerical readouts), and foreclosure (the gradual attrition of pre-reflective bodily confidence). Nine propositions articulate the structure of this wrong attractor, its basin geometry, and the conditions under which return to S^0 is possible.
The paper concludes with clinical and design implications, arguing that the therapeutic aim is not anti-technology asceticism but recalibration—restoring the body as the primary interpreter of its own signals.
