Compulsive Positive Interpretation as Reality-Acceptance Wrong Attractor: The Negative-Experience-Intolerance Architecture, Bypass-Through-Meaning Basin, and the Resilience Paradox

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

Compulsive positive interpretation — the chronic pattern of compulsively finding a positive frame for every negative experience one personally encounters, not as genuine resilience but as a defensive maneuver that prevents accurate reality contact and genuine processing of difficulty — is here formally reconceptualized as a wrong attractor W_CPI in the landscape of calibrated reality engagement.

The healthy ground state S^0 is defined as calibrated reality engagement: the capacity to engage with one's own experience accurately — including genuine difficulty, genuine loss, and genuine disappointment — finding meaning and possibility where they genuinely exist, without compulsively imposing positive frames on experiences that are genuinely adverse. W_CPI is rigorously distinguished from genuine resilience and posttraumatic growth, healthy optimism, appropriate meaning-making, and legitimate reframing that genuinely reflects alternative perspectives.

Three interlocking mechanisms maintain the basin: negative-experience intolerance (the compulsive positive interpreter cannot tolerate the bare experience of difficulty or loss; D(ξ) is generated by unframed negative experience; the positive reframe provides immediate relief from the discomfort of the unmediated negative), bypass through meaning (the positive interpretation substitutes a meaning-narrative for the emotional experience — providing cognitive resolution without affective processing; the person understands their difficulty without feeling it, leaving the unprocessed experience to resurface), and authentic difficulty erasure (chronic positive interpretation makes it impossible for the person to acknowledge genuine adversity — they cannot receive sympathy or access genuine support because the difficulty has been narratively eliminated).

The Resilience Paradox is central: compulsive positive interpretation reliably produces the fragility it is organized to prevent — by bypassing genuine difficulty through immediate reframing, the compulsive positive interpreter builds no genuine resilience and remains vulnerable to any difficulty that cannot be quickly reframed. Nine formal propositions characterize the calibrated reality engagement ground state, the compulsive-reframing wrong attractor, the three maintenance mechanisms, the resilience paradox, developmental roots in environments where difficulty was not allowed expression, and return paths through permission to acknowledge difficulty, somatic processing, IFS work, and graduated negative-experience tolerance.
