The healthy ground state S^0 is defined as calm presence: the capacity to inhabit stability, quietness, and ordinary life without crisis activation, able to regulate affect through ordinary means rather than manufactured urgency.
W_DA is rigorously distinguished from genuine crisis response, appropriate conflict engagement, and adaptive stress-seeking. Three interlocking mechanisms maintain the basin: crisis-as-aliveness (for the drama-addicted individual, calm is experienced as deadness or emptiness; crisis activates the nervous system and produces a felt sense of being real and alive through neurochemical activation — cortisol, adrenaline, attachment-system activation; D(ξ) is generated by stability rather than chaos), escalation maintenance (drama requires escalation to remain effective as a regulator — what produces adequate stimulation today requires amplification tomorrow; the individual unconsciously raises the stakes through more intense conflicts, more catastrophic framings, more extreme reactions), and relationship-as-stage (relationships are organized as theaters for drama; others are recruited as cast members in the Karpman Drama Triangle; genuine intimacy, which requires boring ordinariness, is intolerable).
The Aliveness Paradox is central: drama addiction reliably produces the deadness and disconnection it is organized to prevent — sustained crisis exhausts and alienates; relationships organized around drama cannot provide genuine intimacy; manufactured aliveness crowds out actual aliveness.
