Epilepsy as Runaway Excitatory Displacement: Seizure as Ground State Escape, Ictal Wrong Attractor, and the Postictal Return

We apply the Displacement Framework to epilepsy. S0_neural is the balanced excitatory/inhibitory configuration. A seizure is wrong-attractor capture via four positive feedback mechanisms: NMDA potentiation, extracellular K+ accumulation, GABAergic reversal, and ephaptic coupling. Epileptogenesis is wrong-attractor basin formation through mossy fiber sprouting, interneuron loss, and channel remodeling.

The postictal state is the return phase; its duration scales with ictal displacement cost. Status epilepticus is wrong-attractor lock-in. AEDs are classified by three landscape operations. The ketogenic diet — including vegan implementations using coconut, avocado, and hemp fat sources — modifies the metabolic landscape via KATP channels, GABA synthesis, and adenosine pathways, deepening the S0_neural attractor basin.
