Hair as Displacement Record and Social Token: The Shaft as Temporal Archive, Natural Hair as S0_appearance, and Modification as Signal Displacement

We apply the Displacement Framework to hair as a biological and social signal. The hair shaft is a temporal archive of displacement history: cortisol, hormones, nutrition, and drugs are encoded at approximately 1 cm per month, making Phi_biological literally stored in the keratin. S0_hair is the genetic ground state — the unmodified natural configuration. Modification (straightening, coloring, cutting) is displacement from S0_hair.

Institutional demands for hair straightening in Black communities are formalized as coerced displacement with real financial, physical, and psychological costs. The natural hair movement is return to S0. The surface may lie; the shaft does not.
