We apply the Displacement Framework to insomnia and sleep disorders, formalizing sleep as the minimum-displacement attractor of the biological daily cycle and chronic insomnia as a conditioned wrong attractor. The two-process model (Process S homeostatic pressure + Process C circadian drive) is formalized as a displacement gradient that normally drives the system toward S0_sleep.
Nine formal propositions are derived covering: sleep as minimum-displacement attractor, chronic insomnia as conditioned wrong attractor (bed-arousal pairing with formal conditioning coefficient), Phi-accumulation (Phi_total = sigma x T x N x D-bar), sleep restriction therapy as homeostatic overpower of the wrong attractor, rebound insomnia as pharmacological displacement (GABAa downregulation deepens the basin post-discontinuation explaining why sedatives fail long-term), CBT-I superiority as landscape repair versus basin-flipping, meta-displacement (worry about sleep deepens the wrong attractor), fatal familial insomnia as complete return-path destruction, and conditioned wrong-attractor persistence.
