We apply the Displacement Framework to menopause, formalizing it as a hormonally-driven transition between two ground states: S°_rep (the reproductive-years hormonal equilibrium) and S°_post (the stable post-reproductive configuration). Unlike pathological displacement, menopause is a developmentally ordained transition — but one that imposes substantial multi-domain D(ξ) during the extended perimenopause crossing.
The reproductive ground state S°_rep is defined across eight dimensions: hormonal cycling stability, vasomotor equilibrium, urogenital integrity, cognitive sharpness, mood regulation, sleep architecture, bone density, and metabolic baseline. Perimenopause is formalized as extended displacement: an indeterminate period of 4-10 years characterized by the absence of a stable target state, irregular hormonal fluctuations, and accumulating Φ = ∫D(ξ)dt from symptom domains that compound each other.
Nine formal propositions are derived covering: S°_rep as the reproductive attractor, perimenopause as state-indeterminate displacement, vasomotor symptoms as signature D(ξ) signals, multi-domain cost accumulation (genitourinary syndrome of menopause, cognitive effects, mood disruption, sleep degradation, musculoskeletal decline), cultural devaluation as structural amplifier, S°_post as achievable new ground state, menopausal hormone therapy as landscape intervention targeting direct estrogen deficit, WHI overcorrection as iatrogenic D(ξ) (population-level risk communication failure generating unnecessary untreated suffering), and non-hormonal alternatives for those who cannot use MHT.
