We apply the Displacement Framework to mitochondrial biology, formalizing the cellular ground state S0_cell around five biophysical correlates: mitochondrial membrane potential (DeltaPsi_m), ATP production efficiency, ROS generation rate, electron transport chain integrity, and mitochondrial quality control. ATP is formalized as return currency — the resource required to execute any return from displacement.
We derive the ATP Return Currency Theorem, showing that D(xi) increases superlinearly as ATP falls below threshold. The mitochondrial displacement chain is formalized in four stages culminating in membrane permeability transition (mPT) as wrong-attractor entry. Five major diseases are analyzed as mitochondrial wrong attractors: Parkinson's (Complex I dysfunction), Alzheimer's (amyloid-beta membrane disruption), ME/CFS (partial attractor with PEM), cancer (Warburg metabolic wrong attractor), and diabetes/aging (basin erosion).
Return paths via exercise, fasting, ketosis, and sleep are formalized. The vegan whole-food diet satisfies the minimum oxidative displacement rate via phytonutrient Nrf2 activation.
