PhronesisWe apply the Displacement Framework to Narcissistic Injury (NI) and Narcissistic Collapse, analyzing the acute and extended consequences of ego-threat events on the narcissistic individual's subjective ground state. This paper complements the earlier narcissism analysis in this series by focusing specifically on injury events and collapse states. The grandiosity ground state S⁰_narc is formally defined as the narcissist's subjective equilibrium configuration of inflated self-concept, special-status belief, entitlement, and low encoding of others' D(ξ) — the state that ego-threat events disrupt.
D(ξ_injury) is formalized with injury-sensitivity parameter and public-witness multiplier. Nine formal propositions are derived covering: S⁰_narc as subjective grandiosity equilibrium distinct from S⁰_healthy (P1), D(ξ_injury) as disproportionate threat response (P2), the collapse-rage bifurcation as function of basin depth, injury magnitude, and defensive resources — rage = basin restoration, collapse = basin failure (P3), Kohut's shame core formalized as D(ξ_injury) ≡ D(ξ_shame-exposure) (P4), cumulative Φ producing paranoid hypersensitivity, preemptive devaluation, escalating aggression, and social withdrawal (P5), treatment entry window at collapse (P6), schema therapy as progressive re-habituation to S⁰_actual (P7), the Kohut-Kernberg unification as complementary descriptions of bifurcation outcomes (P8), and narcissistic injury in domestic violence as the injury-rage-assault escalation chain (P9).
