The gambling ground state S°_reward is defined as sustainable, flexible engagement with uncertain reward at normal dopaminergic baseline. The gambling wrong attractor emerges through three mechanisms: variable-ratio reinforcement schedules producing the highest resistance to extinction, near-miss signals firing dopamine responses equivalent to wins (corrupting the reward prediction error signal), and the illusion of control maintaining continued play.
Nine formal propositions are derived covering: S°_reward as the sustainable reward-seeking baseline, variable-ratio reinforcement as the trap mechanism, near-miss as false dopamine signal, chasing losses as positive-feedback D(ξ) escalation, financial ruin as secondary displacement cascade, the gambler's fallacy as cognitive wrong-attractor maintenance, digital gambling platforms as intentional basin depth amplifiers, self-exclusion as landscape modification, and recovery as multi-domain return path.
