Relational perfectionism — the application of impossible standards to intimate partners, producing perpetual disappointment and preventing genuine commitment — is here formally reconceptualized as a wrong attractor W_RP in the landscape of accepting love. The healthy ground state S^0 is defined as accepting love: the capacity to love a real, flawed, finite person with high standards for treatment and compatibility while accepting the irreducible imperfection of all human relationships.
W_RP is rigorously distinguished from clinical perfectionism (self-directed standard application), splitting (evaluation collapse), appropriate relational standards, and healthy discernment. Three interlocking mechanisms maintain the basin: the ideal partner template (a highly specific and often unconscious model of the perfect partner against which all real candidates are measured and found wanting — fantasy immune to reality-testing), the disappointment amplification loop (every imperfection is experienced as evidence of fundamental inadequacy; local failures are globally attributed; cumulative disappointment becomes the dominant relational experience), and the escape hatch narrative (the belief that 'the right person wouldn't do this' creates a permanent exit door through which no real relationship can prevent someone from stepping).
The loneliness paradox is central: relational perfectionism reliably produces the loneliness it is organized to prevent — impossible standards preclude commitment, or erode existing relationships through perpetual criticism. Nine formal propositions characterize the impossible-standard basin, ideal partner template, disappointment amplification, escape hatch narrative, loneliness paradox, developmental roots, cultural amplifiers, ACT-based return paths, and distinction from appropriate standards.
