Roboto and the Colorwheel: Design Principles for Zero-Demand Sensory Regulation Interfaces in Autistic Learning Environments

Rincón, D. · 2026 · Zenodo

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

We apply the Displacement Framework to the design of therapeutic digital companions and sensory regulation technology for autistic students. Roboto is a digital companion with six modes — all displacement-neutral or displacement-reducing — designed around a core zero-demand principle: no interaction is required. The colorwheel maps ambient sound and light to visual display, making the sensory field legible without amplifying it.

Mimicry mode is student-initiated only. AAC integration allows non-speaking students to communicate through Roboto. The spaceship withdrawal pod is formalized as a near-zero displacement field that reduces meltdown probability across the entire school day by deepening the attractor basin. Six formal propositions are derived.
