Social Defeat Syndrome as Subordination Wrong Attractor: Chronic Rank Loss as D(ξ_status), the Neurobiological Basis of Submission, and the Structural Displacement of Social Exclusion

Rincón, D. · 2026 · Zenodo · subordination wrong attractor

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

We apply the Displacement Framework to Social Defeat Syndrome (SDS) and chronic social subordination stress, formalizing it as W_subordinate — the subordination wrong attractor formed by repeated D(ξ_defeat) events that sensitize the social threat system, generalize avoidance beyond the original defeater, and neurobiologically recalibrate mesolimbic reward and HPA circuits toward defeat-anticipatory states.

The social rank ground state S⁰_social_rank is defined as the configuration of adequate perceived social standing, social approach behavior, engagement in valued social roles, calibrated HPA response, and mesolimbic reward sensitivity to social cues — not dominance, but absence of chronic subordination. Single defeat produces transient D(ξ_defeat) with recovery; repeated defeat produces W_subordinate formation through sensitization, generalization, and neurobiological remodeling (BDNF signaling in VTA, ΔFosB accumulation in nucleus accumbens, HPA hyperactivation).

Nine formal propositions are derived covering: S⁰_social_rank definition (P1), W_subordinate formation through repeated defeat (P2), sensitization-generalization-remodeling triad (P3), the social avoidance trap parallel to learned helplessness (P4), CSDS neurobiological substrate including Krishnan 2007 BDNF susceptibility mechanism (P5), human social defeat analogues — bullying, workplace mobbing, minority stress, chronic poverty as combined social defeat (P6), social defeat as mechanistic link between structural displacement and individual pathology (P7), resilience through active coping, social support, and VTA BDNF response (P8), and structural interventions targeting environmental sources of social defeat as primary prevention (P9).

The paper formally establishes social defeat as the transdiagnostic mechanism linking structural oppression to depression, social anxiety, and schizophrenia negative symptoms.
