The Displacement Framework: A Unified Theory of Suffering, Return, and Ground State — Survey of 212 Applications Across Human Experience

This is the record, not the paper. The work itself is the deposit on Zenodo, under the DOI below. What follows is its abstract, as deposited.

We present a comprehensive survey and synthesis of the Displacement Framework, a unified theoretical architecture for understanding suffering, pathology, and return across 212 published applications spanning biology, psychiatry, sociology, ecology, and philosophy. The framework's core ontology — ground state S°, displacement cost D(ξ), accumulated displacement Φ = ∫D(ξ)dt, wrong attractors, basin depth, and return paths — is formally developed through 7 definitions, 8 propositions, and 1 main theorem.

The central synthesis theorem identifies three universal suffering factors: wrong attractor depth ΔV(W), accumulated displacement Φ, and return path blockade r_return. A full wrong attractor taxonomy covers 50+ conditions organized by type, basin depth, and return path level. The Positive Displacement Theorem is developed as the formal account of why awe, love, flow, play, and humor are S°-expanding rather than depleting.

A Table of Return Path Mechanisms maps pharmacological, psychological, social, and structural interventions across the full series. The Grammar-Displacement Correspondence Theorem is proved: language systematically encodes displacement direction and magnitude. The Absorbing State Theorem identifies conditions (mortality, extinction, severe dementia) where standard return path calculus fails.

The framework is offered as a candidate for a unified science of human suffering and flourishing.
