the drone

one note, held. no melody — the pitch never moves once you start. the only thing alive is volume: swell it up, let it fall, swell again. the solution to monotony is volume.

low · 98 Hz · volume 0% · silent

three tones, slightly out of tune with each other — that's the shimmer. pick where it begins, then only move the volume. drag the glow up and down to breathe it yourself.

// the idea

A drone never changes note — what makes it feel alive instead of dead is breath. Same value, moving amplitude. You don't escape monotony by reversing direction; you escape it by making the one direction breathe. The classic drone trick — a few oscillators tuned slightly apart, not quite agreeing — gives even a single held pitch a living shimmer, with no melody at all.
