Adaptive placement robots
active, adaptive, dynamic.
Prototype. These are working demos and a design spec, not shipped hardware yet. The software they run on — laserbrain’s displacement logic — is proven; the robots are early.
A small robot that puts things where they should be, and keeps them there as the world moves — your phone facing you, a plant in its best light. It suction-mounts, tilts, and drives to the right spot, then holds.
It holds an ideal — it doesn’t track a target. Every motorized mount points at a face or spins for even light. This one computes the right place and returns to it, moving only when the gap is real. So it’s calm where trackers jitter — the same fixed-reference logic we proved for agents, put into a motor.
How it works
The drift-fixer, in the physical world — the same four steps that stop a spiraling agent:
The ideal spot for the job — facing you, or the light-and-humidity optimum for a plant.
Read what matters: where you are, where the sun is, the room's humidity (VPD).
How far the object is from its ideal spot, right now.
Drive and tilt to close the gap — then hold, until the gap is real again.
Three modes, one robot
Keeps your phone on you
Clips to your iPhone by MagSafe and keeps the screen facing you at a comfortable distance as you move. Hands-free.
Catches your best angle
A MagSafe stand that silentlyturns, tilts and rotates your phone to frame the shot — by soft fluidic actuation, not motors, so there is no whine or shake on the footage.
Finds your plant’s best spot
Reads the sun through your window and the room’s humidity, holds the ideal light — not the brightest, which scorches — and re-finds it as the sun moves.
What it does
drive · tilt · climbDrives to any point on a surface, tilts and pans to aim, and suction-mounts to walls to reach spots a base can't sit.
magsafe · suctionMagSafe magnet for an iPhone, no cradle; suction to carry a plant pot, a light, a camera.
you · sun · VPDWhere you are, the sun's angle through the day, the room's humidity and VPD, and edges so it doesn't drive off.
the laserbrain partComputes the ideal spot for the job and repositions only when displacement crosses a threshold — then holds. Re-optimizes as the day changes.
Why only laserbrain
the part that isn’t copyable- Placement, not pointing. Trackers aim from a fixed base; this goes to the right place.
- An ideal, not a target. It optimizes a state — comfort, horticulture — not “keep the face centered.”
- VPD-aware plant placement.Light plus humidity plus relocation — nothing consumer does this.
- Silent by soft actuation. It aims by fluidic, VPD-driven soft actuators, not motors — no whine, no shake. For a camera, that is the whole difference.
- The phone is the brain. It plugs into your iPhone and borrows its camera, sensors and compute — so the robot is just muscle, and cheap.
- Calm by construction. The fixed-reference logic that stops a spiraling agent stops a twitchy motor — and we proved it.
Where it’s heading
research · a direction, not a demoBeyond motorized bases: fascial-driven robots— soft robots that move the way a body does, driven by fascia-like tissue that stores and releases force, rather than rigid motors and gears. Grown, not milled. The same logic — hold an ideal, return to it — but in a body that bends instead of a base that drives. It grows out of laserbrain’s tissue-displacement work, and it is early: a research direction the line is built toward, stated as exactly that.
